Worn out from a 4 hour hike up to Mt John to the observatory and around Lake Tekapo. The kids are now SILENTLY asleep. They have been so excited these past few days with our little family adventure that they haven’t been very good at going to sleep at night. Not that the three and a half hour New Zealand time zone difference is helping. Trying to convince the kids to go to bed at NZ 7:30pm is a little hard when their little body clocks are telling them it is 4:00pm. But no arguments tonight, or giggles, or jumping on the bed, just blissful silence. The mountain was grueling but the circuit track down from the mountain was just beautiful. Well worth the tired legs and sore feet. My fitness level is a little poor. Ben had the greater burden of carrying Ada, our 3-year-old, in the child carrier on his back. She isn’t light. However, without the child carrier there would have been no way we could have gone on the walk. Thanks Ben.
We had booked in to view the stars at the observatory, however, the clouds, wind and rain came out tonight making viewing impossible. Probably a good thing though, because I am really tired. Hopefully the weather will be kind tomorrow on our last night here and we will get to see the stars. I would so like to. Signing off now with a sample of today’s delight:
